In a world that often seems divided
and fragmented, art has the marvellous ability to bridge barriers, ignite
empathy, and create connections. Recognizing this transformative power of art,
CEDEC International Schools recently hosted an art competition themed “Hope
Away From Home” to honour World Refugee Day 2023. This captivating event not
only celebrated the artistic talents of our students but also shed light on the
global refugee crisis, fostering compassion and understanding towards those
displaced from their homes.
CEDEC International Schools' Art
Competition provided a platform for students to articulate their creative
interpretations of the refugee experience. The theme encouraged participants to
explore emotions, challenges, resilience, and hope through their artwork,
inviting diverse perspectives on a subject that affects millions worldwide.
Organizers seamlessly merged the
digital and physical worlds through an online submission process coupled with
an in-person exhibition of selected artworks. Aspiring artists were given
complete freedom to choose their medium, ranging from drawings and paintings to
sculptures, photography, and digital art.
Each submitted piece was a testament
to the incredible talent within the CEDEC International Schools' community.
The final event featured a diverse
selection of art styles and mediums, effectively capturing the multidimensional
layers of the refugee experience. Eye-catching paintings depicted scenes of
resilience and hope.
A panel of esteemed judges comprising
members of the International Learning Department, educators, and prominent school
members worked tirelessly to evaluate the artworks. They considered the
originality, technique, emotional impact, and relevance to the theme when
making their decisions, ensuring a fair and comprehensive selection process.
Winners were chosen across different
age categories, recognizing the outstanding contributions made by students of
various age groups. Additionally, special acknowledgment was given to members
of the community who showcased their solidarity through art.
The CEDEC International Schools' Art Competition undeniably succeeded in its mission to raise awareness and promote understanding about the refugee experience. The powerful artworks displayed, reflecting the resilience and hope of displaced individuals, resonated with viewers, prompting deep reflection and discussion about the global refugee crisis.
